Establishing Professional Contacts and Expanding Resrouces

Trying to contact two professionals and establish communication was harder than I thought. I have continuously sent emails from our resource list that was given to us. A lot of email addresses were not working. After a long disappointing search I came up empty handed. I have come to the realization choosing the alternate assignment.

During my undergrad I took some Early Childhood classes and one organization was always a topic of conversation. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) http://www.naeyc.org, this organization has been around since 1926. We never talked about this organization in a whole and I’m curious of everything it offers.

I would like to know if anyone has contacted any professionals overseas. If you were able to connect with anyone, can you please give me any suggestions how?

I am also doing the alternative assignment. Sorry I don't have any suggestions as to how to contact someone.

I commend you for continuously attempting to contact professionals oversees before proceeding to do the alternate assignment. I can not understand why at least one professional did not respond back. None the less, NAEYC is an outstanding organization. I also became familiar with NAEYC during undergraduate and with my current job position. You will enjoy reading and learning more about this organization.

Hi Vennetta,

Through-out my early childhood journey the National Association for the Education of Young Children website and conferences have been a great help in helping me to understand early childhood. Actually, that is one of the reasons I selected Walden's Child Development program to complete for bachelor degree. I chose this university because it encompasses the values and standards set forth by NAEYC.

I am sorry that you were not able to establish contacts with anyone. It might be good though, because you can now concentrate on the NAEYC. This organization provides excellent resources for teachers and parents, and I look forward to seeing what else you will learn from your research!

Troy and Verna ~ My Grandparent’s (Big Daddy and Big Momma)
Growing up as a child my Grandparents would always take us for summer vacation. The first day we got to Los Angles she would give us $10.00 each. We would go to the store and buy all our summer supplies. We would by coloring books, crayons, snacks, toys and anything else we wanted. That was our time to shop for hours just with our Big Mamma. Every time she saw us she would give us a huge hug and kiss us on the cheek. She never believed in celebrating holidays but somehow I always had gifts around the holidays. Big mamma always had me in the kitchen cooking. The special thing about that is each one of my siblings would take turns cooking with her. That was our special time to talk about anything I want to. Those special moments are very special to me. When I go to the farm now, we include my children in the cooking process.
Now my Big Daddy was a different man, he was very quiet but I knew he loved me. He was an out doors type of man and always had me outside fixing something. He didn’t say much but showed me how to take care things I buy. They moved to the family farm in Oklahoma almost 15 years ago. Now that I’m older I still find myself outside helping him on the farm. I recently asked him why he always had me fixing things when I was younger. He answered “Because I was not in San Jose to show you when you needed me”. I find myself doing the same thing with my children. I would take time with each child and do things.

Sandra ~ My Neighbor
Growing up my best friend was my next door neighbor NeNe. She would not talk to anyone but me for a couple years. Her mom Sandra saw that and would always invite me over to hang out at their house. Sandra was a very special person to me because she always thought of me as a family member. She knew I liked her chicken and would invite me over every time she cooked it. I remember going swimming with her and her family. My sister asked how come she is not invited; Sandra would smile and say Vennetta had a great report card, did her homework or did her chores. She knew somehow I felt lost being the youngest child and didn’t get to go anywhere. The time I knew I was special was when her kids were in Hawaii for the summer. She knocked on my door and asked if I could go to lunch with her, my mom said yes. She knew Togo’s Deli was my favorite place to eat. We jumped in the car and I ordered my sandwich. We sat and talked for hours, she told me how special I was. She told me how proud she was of me and to keep getting good grades so I can become the person God wants me to be. I find myself creating special moments with my kids. Since we don’t have a Togo’s here my kids loves Tappy’s Yogurts. My girls volunteer with me at our church. I started taking them to Tappy’s after service. Having that one on one time I create with my kids are priceless. To this day, every time my friends from California visit they know I need my Salami Sandwich from Togo’s. They better not get off the plane without it.
